Overview
Client: H+ Technology
Project Type: Industry Collaboration
Goal: Showcase the potential of H+’s new holographic platform through an innovative application.
Challenge
H+ Technology invited our team, Out of the Box, to create a game or application that demonstrated the capabilities of their holographic platform. After presenting ten concepts, H+ selected the idea of a character assistant—a holographic companion designed to assist and engage families.
Solution
We envisioned a product that went beyond gaming. While most of the tested content was casual games, we focused on productivity and family-oriented experiences. Our concept aligned with H+’s mission of humanizing technology through their Magic Box platform.
Result
The result was Omi, a holographic home assistant designed for families who believe technology should bring people together. Omi combines functionality with playfulness, creating an engaging experience for the entire family. Omi is a playful companion that entertains and assists the entire household. Unlike virtual assistants such as Siri or Cortana, Omi interacts through a holographic presence—complete with a face and its own immersive world (Holus). This unique approach transforms Omi from a tool into a character families can connect with.
My Role
Ideation & Concept Development • Storytelling – Created Omi’s narrative, scripts, and storyboards. • Interaction Design – Designed commands and future action scenarios. • Sound & Character Research – Assisted with audio elements and character design • 3D Elements – Contributed to assets used in animations.
Key Takeaways
Designing for emerging technologies requires balancing innovation with usability • Storytelling plays a critical role in humanizing technology • Collaboration across design, tech, and marketing ensures a cohesive user experience • Ethical Considerations: Privacy and data security must be prioritized when creating assistants that interact in family spaces; avoiding over-reliance on technology is essential to maintaining healthy human relationships, and transparency in how the assistant collects and uses data builds trust with users.
